Starting up a consulting business and we want to be affordable to small companies. i have called around my competition and rates are typical from 100.00 destination charge to 125 an hour for what i would consider very “junior” level work – such as SOHO networking, cabling or PC repair. What rates have you paid and what are you comfortable with?

    Congratulations on your new business.
Living in the Central Valley of CA, I’ve paid 75.00. an hour. It’s higher in the Bay Area. Just depends on your geographical area. There is a link in “CareerBuilders.com” that will tell you how much a particular profession should be making in your area./ zip code.

This would vary by locale. The rates you mentioned would be way to high in some areas, except for very “Senior” work. Do a little market research for industrial averages on the internet. The Department of Commerce in your state would be a great place to start.
