How Do You Feel About Small Farms That Only Keep Their Animals As Pets?
Read the rest of this entry »
Example: A small family farm with dairy cows (who are milked by hand), chickens who lay eggs to be sold, pigs, horses, sheep who are sheered, ect.
In other words, a farm where no one uses the animals for food, but uses them for what they produce (milk, eggs, wool) to make a profit and as pets.
How do you feel about that?

I think as long as they aren’t cruel or anything, it’s completely fine. I mean, otherwise these animals would probably be in a much worse place right? If the owners of the farm don’t hurt the animals but just use what they naturally produce like you said, I don’t have any problem with it.
I would obviously prefer animals to be on such a farm rather than the cruel factory farms out there. I would strongly be against forced pregnation to obtain milk, even in such a farm. It’s kind of pointless to ask what a vegan thinks about shearing, obtaining eggs, etc. since well I personally would be against it anyway, but even though it’s still wrong, it’s better than the big commercial farms out there.
You don’t need eggs; feed them back to the hens for calcium. Milk is only obtained by impregnating a cow and it belongs to the calf…so no. Sheering I do not believe in unless they are at risk, and it’s done in a nice way – not shoving them on their back like a sack of potatoes. And I wouldn’t use said wool for humans, it would be used for animal bedding for other animals. Give back to the animals what you take.
Its actually what I eat. I raise chickens, eat eggs, and eat roosters (you only need one). They are free range (more like they run all over the yard) and eat some feed but mostly bugs. I have no problems with eating them.
My neighbor raises goats. We also skin the goats, and eat the meat.
I am raising a cow. I am preparing to take it to the butcher to have it made into beef. It ate grass all of its life and lived on 10 acres of land (well ok I fed it some range cubes and gave it a salt lick). This will be the second one I have done.
People generally call me a localvore (at least my vegan friends do). And my vegetarian friends get eggs from me (you would be supprised how many eggs 5 chickens make). So personally I see nothing wrong with it.
eggs r fine but milk is still a food meant for babies and created for babies, so you cant have milk if the baby is having milk, and sheep don’t naturally need their wool sheared so they have just enough, so if they are sheared they need warm shelter. So i pretty much love small family farms! that dont slaughter…
yes I think its great. If everyone became vegetarians for pigs cows and chickens to not go extinct we would need to keep them as pets since they are dependent on humans.
As long as the animals are treated well and taken care of, then it would be fine with me.
Awesome!
I don’t see anything wrong with that.
